Midi Maze was an ahead-of-its-time multiplayer first person maze shooter that started life on the Atari ST. The title soon made its way onto the Game Boy, Super Nintendo and Game Gear under the name of Faceball 2000, however, the Virtual Boy port has been missing in action - at least until now.
Much to the surprise of the retro gaming community, a user on the?PlanetVB forums recently appeared with information and visuals nobody thought existed. Mr G's newly opened thread about NikoChan Battle, or Faceball as we know it, harboured a selection of never seen before screenshots of the game in action on the Nintendo Virtual Boy, and the promise that the unreleased game was in safe hands.
It wasn't long before the Virtual Boy die-hards were on the case though. Within just a matter of weeks, a duo of fans had purchased the game from the mysterious Mr G, despite costing them a small fortune. Their aim, however, will be worth their initial investment in the eyes of retro gamers worldwide... The duo not only plan to release a ROM of the game online for free, but to also create a complete in box cartridge reproduction of the unreleased?Virtual Boy shooter.
The team behind the upcoming release of Faceball for the Nintendo Virtual Boy are hoping to have copies ready for February, aiming to sell them at around $100 each. Once every copy of the physical cartridge release has been sold, the ROM of Faceball will be made available to download for free.
